I have learned to stretch out my patience until after bedtime and not let it slack when Mitch gets home. And I have learned to let the little things go because really, I have no other choice.
For example, I took the kids to the movie today by myself, something I have done before but not since Owen has been potty trained. Everything was going great, Owen had his popcorn, and the babe was snoozin’ away. And then there was me, feeling so happy and content and thinking to myself that I was such a fun mom. So full of these happy feelings, I reached over to put Owen on my lap so we could be closer. What I hadn't noticed though was that the lid of his drink was off and when I picked him up I caught him off guard and now that drink was being turned over into my lap and his before I could stop it. Crap. Somewhere in between me gasping and jumping up the baby woke up and started crying. Great. But I pulled myself together and pulled out the extra pair of pants and underwear I had brought for Owen in case of an accident and quickly changed him there in the theatre. He didn't have to miss out on anything. I would just have to grin and bear it and sit there wet.
As I was tying the last shoe after I got him dressed he looked at me with a panicked face and said, "Mom, I have to go peep in the big boy toilet!"
I hadn't thought about what I would do with the baby when such an occasion would arise, but I didn't have time to think now. I carried both him and her to the bathroom and sat him down. Within seconds I realized that the front of my shirt was all wet. We had made it to the bathroom in time, but for lack of a better way to say it, he forgot to aim.
Well, we washed our hands and I marched them back to the movie. I had paid good money for him to see it and I wasn't going to just waste it! A few minutes after sitting back down I realized the baby had just had a blow out. Why me?
Now at the end of the day, here I sit, and in the same clothes. I'm sticky, I’m pretty sure that at some point today the baby spit up in my hair, and I stink like pee.
Also, Mitch called me tonight to let me know that he missed his flight and won’t be home for another day. Man I'm tired.

Ohh, this story was definitely one of those that is only funny after the fact. It really makes you wonder how single moms/dads do it.
Absolutely! I am so lucky to have Mitch. I don't know what I would do with out him.
this is the kind of thing that you bring out on owen's first date.....or when he brings the potential wife home. just to let him have the full effect of how it made you feel ;)
Wow, you are brave!!! So funny though, that hopefully by now you're laughing....
First of all, way to go make it without Mitch!!!!! Secondly, way to make it without Mitch...and go to a movie all by yourself! Are you crazy!? That's is amazingly brave of you! I wouldn't attempt that in a million years-you're my hero!!! That's a hysterical story and I can't stop laughing about it! Thanks for sharing! Way to go, Supermom!!
I think you are an awesome mom, and even more so because of the events of the day. I was exhausted just reading about it, let alone doing it. Way to go supermom~!
Wow Em what a trooper that sounds like a movie from hell lol. Im so proud of you for sticking it out. That is amazingly hard. What a great mom are you?
Em, call me next time and we will go with you. We love movies and it helps if there are 2 moms. Seriously!!!
Oh Emma you had a day like I had the other day! Oh how I wish that we still lived in Utah!! I would back my baby up and come camp out at your house. I miss you terribly.
Where did Mitch go? Josh will be gone this weekend. But sometimes that's easier on me.:) jk I absolutely hate being home alone at night. To answer your question why me? Because you are a mom, and a good one. Yay for Owen, sounds like potty training is going good! P.S. just be glad Lola will still sleep through movies. I took Colton to Monsters vs Aliens and spent the entire movie going up and down the stairs with Olivia. She is not going to another movie with us for a long time!
BWAHAHA! Thanks for the laughs. I heart potty training. Can't wait to do it with a boy, that sounds extra super exciting. Yeah, we call it "peep" at our house too, and I love hearing a 2-year-old saying, "Mommy! i need to go peep!" And then one day we read a children's book about spring, and little mouse saw "a green, peeping frog," who happens to be squatting in a frog-like position next to a puddle. Beth got this panicked look on her face and said, "Is the froggie peeping?"
